I used to ski like JF. I realize that 2018 is not 2023, but his technique is dated. Always facing downhill is old technique. Now there is such a thing as over rotating and the rear of the ski wash out. However, advanced steering like JF does here, is different than letting the sidecut and high edge angle and pressuring the skis to finish the turn. Simply put, he is losing energy by his steering at the end of the turn (a narrow skid) rather than bending the ski thru muscle movement (adding energy) to the turn. An old ski racing adage is that, "Strength gives you speed." JF is loosing more energy than what gravity gives him, versus adding muscular energy and a pure carved turn. The narrow skid is his speed control. Don't get me wrong, as JF is a beautiful skier (the same thing can be said of Stein Erickson), but it is not current technique. There isn't any float stage between turns where the energy from muscle movement accelerates the skis and you are sitting back momentarily, until the start of the new turn has the ski edge digging in, and the upper body catches up. Watch Marcel Hirsher or Michaela Shiffrin ski.
